Oklahoma Ranked as One of the Top Web Sites in the Nation

Oklahoma City, OK. – September 16, 2009 – Oklahoma’s Official Web site, http://OK.gov, has been nominated as a finalist in the 2009 Best of the Web national competition for eGovernment achievement.

“To be recognized as one of the top 11 state Web sites in the nation is a great honor,” said Joe Fleckinger, Deputy Director of Information Technology of the Oklahoma Office of State Finance. “Since 2001, we have worked hard to make OK.gov an easy-to-use and comprehensive place for businesses and citizens to interact with the state. In the future, we plan to build upon this success by enhancing citizen interaction, managing important content effectively and efficiently, and building online services that save the state, citizens and businesses time and money.”

The state of Oklahoma launched a new version of OK.gov in April 2009. The new version offers unique and innovative features that help set OK.gov apart from the other 49 states:

• Categorized and cross-referenced content that delivers powerful, relevant and “smart” search results.

• Visitor activity that is logged and transformed into one-click search functionality, available in one centralized location.

• Share, style, translate, and support services conveniently available throughout the entire portal.

• An interactive mapping system designed to help users find relevant state, county, and local information.

• Real-time widgets providing visitors with access to multiple online services such as shopping for surplus auction items online.

• Green results that show the benefits of conducting government services online at http://GoGreen.OK.gov

• An eGov News Report delivering subscribers the latest news in Oklahoma government technology.

• More than 260 online services including 120 types of professional licensing services, 2 state transparency Web sites: OpenBooks.OK.gov and Recovery.OK.gov, and over 300 ways to interact with Oklahoma government online.

Best of the Web ranks the top U.S. state and local Web portals, recognizing advances in digital solutions and communication with citizens, government communities and business.  The Digital Government Achievement Awards showcase progressive and innovative Web sites and digital applications by government entities worldwide. The awards are judged by a panel of experts on a wide range of categories, including site accessibility, innovation, cost-savings, ease of use, and exceptional service to public.
